Pride Pageant Fundraiser - Wilders Event Center - Date: June 26th

  • Sashes need ordered - Instead of ordering additional Grand Marshall sash, Ent Directors to discuss something else that can be given instead.
  • Begin time June 26th - 4pm
  • Performer discussion - Who is special entertainment other than Rising Star and Shayna Towers? - Still working to solidify Entertainment and Judges. Needs to be lined out before 30 days before the pageant.
  • Pageant Budget/Funds discussion - Ron discussed rising costs of pageant and different ways to offset those costs. Was discussed raising door fee. Natalie pointed out that for some with kids paying $10 each is a stretch already. Discussion tabled
  • Titleholders Contract is updated and posted on the pageant page of our site
  • Darkside of Disney - Backdrop foam board scene - Shayna, Should the banner just be a themed banner each year to help with decor? Was discussed that it would be best to have one JOMO Pride Pageant banner that can be reused each year instead of spending an additional $100 each event for a themed banner.

B. Show Me America Pageant Discussion - Ron has been in contact with Mariah and Vega. They were still searching for new owners for the Show Me Pageant. Board discussed giving a timeline to have everything solidified by. Entertainment directors brought up that although we agreed to have their pageant at Pride we can’t wait until last minute to have things figured out, we agreed to do this to help both us out, for extra events during our Pride and also a pageant that just lost their host location, but we agreed to do this when everything was together and in-line. Ron discussed if we wait to long and it falls through then we won’t have time to adjust the JCVB grant application and amend it which could cause us to not be awarded future grant monies - We have to have this resolved sooner than later. Board discussed needing to do what is best for our organization and event. Misty motions to cut the pageant from Day 2 of JOMO Pride, motion is seconded by Victoria. In favor of proposal 8, 1 nay, 1 abstain, motion carries. Ron to contact pageant promoters

C. Hot Checks - Ron & Jaclyn to call/visit prosecutors office
  • Jaclyn met at prosecutors office, warrants are being issued. We are to call them next week and bring in all our documentation and evidence for court proceedings

D. Apply for Third thursday booth in June/August? Was discussed to booth in June and hand out flyers in August - Carey to apply for booth and make payment,

E. Marketing - IMMEDIATE NEEDS - Josh to finfish and submit logos for JOMO Pride Inc & JOMO PrideFest so artwork and ads can be created. Then ads for GAYLY, BOOM, CAMP need created and sent in before the deadline on May 1st. Then banners and other promotional material to be created.

F. Discuss Turnabout Drag Show Fundraiser - July 24th - 930pm -Mel from Blackthorn & Carey from JOMO Pride Board, still looking for others to assist. Will follow up with Visitors Bureau and Chamber.

G. Carey/Treasurer - File 990 for 2020, Check state use tax exemption, get new IRS non profit certification letter reflecting new address. Call Towneplace Suites by Marriott and give Shannon our CC info to put on file, pay Minnie Hackney $200, pay Chase & entertainers for April 2nd fundraiser, scan the GAYLY contract and email it back, Scan the Minnie Hackney application and send it back in email.

H. BAM to perform instead of Diversity. $600 payment - Grant needs reworked to reflect this change. Need to hold out until all other changes to pride are solidified.

I. Resources page - make post. Compile statewide lgbtq non profits and add to list. Mental and physical health resources need compiled. Youth Liaison Director to asssit. Post to be made from JOMO Pride page, and sent to Carey with link to “Get Listed”

J. website - Ron to get with Patrick to finish vendor/sponsor log in area with check in/rules processes etc, replicate how pageant page works on the JOMO PrideFest event tab to easily input and change information as needed, Eventually will need to have another application for vendors to apply for both days. Right now they can only apply for the festival instead of specifying day 1 or 2. We are reaching out individually to get vendors to apply x2 if they want to booth at day 2.

K. Board positions - At-Large (open), Media (open) - Nominations - Natalie Murray, and Raymond Gall. Natalie is interested in At-Large as well as Raymond. After discussion Raymond will accept Media Director position and Natalie will accept At-Large position. Both Natalie and Raymond were appointed to their respective positions. Post to be made from JOMO pride page. Loop new members in.

L. Discuss possible PrideFest COVID safety protocols - Other festivals that are starting back up are starting back with covid restrictions such as booths spaced apart, sanitizing stations, recommending face masks, and keeping as much congregation of crowds in the open air. Will discuss more with JCVB and health department and other festivals to get more guidance. Discussion tabled.

M. Discussion of incident stemming from previous meeting
  • Reminder to members that what happens in meetings stays in meetings. If the community wants to know whats going on then can attend or read our minutes after each meeting, Was discussed that if anyone degrades, harrasses, or attacks those in attendance at a meeting then they will be asked to leave and may not be asked back at the Boards Discretion. Was also discussed to make sure when something happens we don’t have members flooding facebook and having the appearance of ganging up people whether they were in the wrong or not. Board members have fielded numerous calls and texts from community members asking “whats the drama going on in the board”, “thats why no one wants to be involved in Pride because of the drama”. A supporter has also pulled donations from the fundraiser because of the public drama. If something happens and a reply is a must then make sure the board and our meetings are left out of the mix, we don’t want community members thinking that there is nothing but drama involved in Pride.
  • Continued discussion- Board recognizes that the outburst and derogatory comments made were not acceptable at the last meeting. Was also discussed that the backlash online was unacceptable as well. Motion was made by Misty and seconded by Victoria to ban the attendee involved in the derogatory attacks from attending JOMO Pride meetings in the future at the boards discretion. 9 in favor, 1 nay, 2 abstain, motion carries.

N. Rotary Club request - Message from a representative of the Joplin Rotary Club requests a rep from JOMO Pride to take part in a speaking engagement at the Rotary Club about LGBTQ issues & our organization. Carey will find out more info and see if a panel discussion is something that would suit the event and attendees better. Will contact and touch back with the board.

O. Raven from Springfield GLO stopped by to introduce herself and the trans support group she also represents. Will send us information on safe virtual support group meetings which meet Sunday from 3-5. Board would also like her their group to booth with us during Pride. Ron to send link to apply.

  • Judges/performer/host discussion - who is paid, how much, how many entertainers, who, how many judges, who, tips? (Joplin Rising Star only approved performer so far)
    • 3 Judges, all entertainers are keeping their tips
    • Going forward, if we are booking entertainers, they keep show fee and tips (they are donating their time).  
    • Ms. America will be sending invoice which will be in lieu of the contract, Misty needs to review contract prior to signing. 
  • Pageant Budget/Funds discussion - 1,300-1,600 (cost not including booking fees throughout the year included in contract for titleholders) –
    • Ron - $50 dollar booking fee, fundraisers are designed to make money for Pride, how do we raise funds if we are paying fees?  Increase fees brings total up to $2,600, organization would be upside down in door fees.
    • Ron – We will need to have another fund raiser to cover potential costs.
    • Shayna – Need to be clear and documented that entertainers are being asked to donate time.
    • Ron – booking fee should increase for title holders.
    • Shayna – Organization needs to create a policy, has been very inconsistent.
    • Johnny – Previously, entertainers donated tips, entertainers need to be paid more.
    • Ron – Can we increase booking fee to $75?
  • MOTION – Increase Booking Fee to $75 for all events except Pageant and Pride – motion passes, no objections

  • Titleholders Contract discuss updates – Ron and Shayna reviewed.  Misty – if title holder steps down or dethroned, they cannot compete for a minimum or one year or at board’s discretion.  Contract being reviewed and a new version drafted.  Number of events and board meetings being negotiated.
  • MOTION to raise booking fee of Titleholder to $100 and contract amendments.  Motion carries with no objections.
  • Darkside of Disney - How to incorporate theme? Banner? Cutouts? Decor? Etc.
  • New JOMO Pride Pageant Banner – Josh – Backdrops on stage.  Will limit all items to stage area.  Cutouts of Disney villains, fog machine, rainbows and flags.  

B. Show Me America Pageant - Misty to talk to Victoria asap. Was discussed we should give promoters/owners time to get pageant under new ownership at previous meeting. Ron spoke to Mariah/Pattaya and they are in the process of looking for new ownership for the pageant.
  • Vega found new owners for the pageant and are meeting this coming weekend, Ron to get update.  Old owners will assist new owners in transition.
Misty – We do not have a facility.  If it flops it looks bad on us, not them.
Ron – We approved it in the grant application, give it time to work itself out before we pull
the plug, it is part of the reason we got the funding.
Shayna – What would happen if we cannot do this?
Ron – We could lose grant funding, and opportunity to apply for funding in the future.
Loni – Set a date for cutoff of decision.
Shayna – Invite them to come and make a decision rather than waiting until it is no longer feasible.
Ron – Wait until this week to find out more information about new ownership, invite new
owners down to approve venue.
Misty – Book Vega for a regular show and have her take a look around for tentative
approval.
Ron – Will discuss further at next meeting.

D. Waiting on invoice from GAYLY for sponsorship/ad exchange - quarter page $300/$500 Rainbow Sponsorship
Ron received invoice; quarter page ad is discounted.  Senior editor email read by Ron. Deadline is June 15, they are at donation of $500.  Ron drafted letter and let them know corporate sponsorship is already taken.  Did offer a lower-level sponsorship to get a two page spread leading up to the event without having to pay anything out of pocket.

E.   • What month would be best for another fundraiser? Ron suggested July.  Mel checked calendar, July is open.  Friday, July 24, 2021 9:30pm Blackthorn.  Only fundraiser that will be 21+.
MOTION to approve additional fundraiser - motion passes with no objections.
 
G. Carey/Treasurer - Check on state use tax exemption before payment to stage for 2300 purchase so we don't have to pay tax. Contact IRS and get us a new non profit tax letter sent reflecting our new address. Double check 990 is filed.

H. Hotel Partnership - Towneplace Suites by Marriott Joplin - Discuss contract
-2021 Deal: “Run of the House” – 10 rooms, double queens $92 (self pay).  Additional 5 rooms single queen suites.  15 rooms total.  1 king, 2 room suite.  Miss Gay America in suite.  We have to book the 15 rooms, then we get the suite paid for.  Potential savings of $450.  Only confirmed 3 rooms so far.  Ron is confident all rooms will book.  Misty suggested getting access to the suite early to stage welcome package.

I. Four States Finest still going until the 18th, please vote and share.
Ron believes event is over.

J. Board members should be sharing posts from the JOMO pride page.

K. Vendor Director - Contact food trucks and get them to apply through link. Should be solidified within the next 30 days - Ron generated food truck list to contact
Will be completed on Tuesday.

L. Sponsorship Director - We have about 20-22 items so far and still need about 25 to go to pull the event off between bingo prizes and silent auction items so please help us reach out to people/businesses to donate.
Jaclyn will donate adult basked if necessary if we don’t get it donated.
Misty – Is Third Thursday launching again? – Yes, Ron, we need to make sure we have a  booth.
 
M. Board positions - At-Large (open), Media (open) - make additional post online

N. AIDS Quilt –
Shayna – They are honoring previous obligations pre-Covid and want to focus on virtual viewing.  Getting a physical piece is out of the question at the moment. 
-Hillbilly Harlots – Drag nuns HIV/AIDS awareness, wants to invite them on the day of Pride. 

O. Sara Cunningham - Founder Free Mom Hugs invited to pride. Ron spoke to Sara and said that a $200 stipend would be perfect and asked if we can give that to the national organization FMH. Also told her the board okayed her staying with us, she is asking if we could cover her stay for the entire festival. Check in on Fri 27th - Check out Mon the 30th. Discuss Motion – Vote – Renegotiate for 2 nights.
MOTION to approve 2 night stay for Sara Cunningham - Motion passes with no objections.

P. Ron is waiting on confirmation from BAM to replace Diversity.
Should know more in the next two weeks.

Q. Waiting to get member application for Minnie Hackney - $200 donation already approved.

Call-In Speaker - (Dola Flake)
Dola informed the group of a new petition to push Joplin Schools to hire EDI specialist.  Dola will email documents for our review first thing in the morning.  Joplin for Justice, BLM, and NAACP are issuing a press release; Call to action from Joplin for Justice for the Joplin School District to hire an EDI specialist.  Dola asked if our Organization would commit support. 
JOMO Pride will allow a table at Pride for Joplin for Justice to confidentially collect their personal stories and encounters within the Joplin School District that demonstrate the need to remedy the lack of a diversity expert within the district. Press conference is Tuesday, 3/16 at 5:30ish.  This activity will assist in building support for a formal request that will be delivered to the school district later
MOTION to approve support for Joplin for Justice Activity: passes with no objections
Stage location/amenities discussion:
Main stage for Pride will be placed opposite the Blackthorn entrance.  Grand Marshall will participate in the march, host three shows the first day, participate in the pageant the second day, host the mimosa breakfast and perform at Sunday night’s shows.
-Shayna – How many drag related shows do we have for the day of Pride?
            Currently unsure, at least 3-4.

  • Drag Bingo Fundraiser - APRIL 2nd - Blackthorn - 6pm

Pride Pageant Fundraiser - Wilders Event Center - Date: June 26th

  • Judges/performer/host discussion - who is paid, how much, how many entertainers, who, how many judges, who, tips? (Joplin Rising Star only approved performer so far)
  • Pageant Budget/Funds discussion - 1,300-1,600 (cost not including booking fees throughout the year included in contract for titleholders)

B. Show Me America Pageant - Misty to talk to Victoria asap. Was discussed we should give promoters/owners time to get pageant under new ownership at previous meeting. Ron spoke to Mariah/Pattaya and they are in the process of looking for new ownership for the pageant.

C. Hot Checks - Ron & Jaclyn to call/visit prosecutors office

D. Waiting on invoice from GAYLY for sponsorship/ad exchange - qrtr page $300/$500 Rainbow Sponsorship

E. Marketing - IMMEDIATE NEEDS - contact BOOM, Camp KC, GAYLY by telephone to get procedure for ad sets & invoice, new pridefest logo, new jomo pride logo - THEN - Banner for pageant, full flyer for Pride & event page graphic with new logo (flyer must be approved by both MGA/CVB), Banner for Pride (Bodegas), new JOMO pride banner, hand fans, flyers, A frame signs, Tshirts
(Once pride logo/event graphic is up marketing $ to be spent on targeted promotions per JCVB grant)

F. Discuss Turnabout Drag Show Fundraiser - gauge interest from the community - Discuss additional yearly fundraiser including preliminary costs and where we sit.

G. Carey/Treasurer - Check on state use tax exemption before pymnt to stage for 2300 purchase so we dont have to pay tax. Contact IRS and get us a new non profit tax letter sent reflecting our new address. Double check 990 is filed.

H. Hotel Partnership - Towneplace Suites by Marriott Joplin - Discuss contract

I. Four States Finest still going until the 18th, please vote and share.

J. Board members should be sharing posts from the JOMO pride page.

K. Vendor Director - Contact food trucks and get them to apply through link. Should be solidified within the next 30 days - Ron generated food truck list to contact

L. Sponsorship Director - We have about 20-22 items so far and still need about 25 to go to pull the event off between bingo prizes and silent auction items so please help us reach out to people/businesses to donate.

M. Board positions - At-Large (open), Media (open) - make additional post online

N. AIDS Quilt -

O. Sara Cunningham - Founder Free Mom Hugs invited to pride. Ron spoke to Sara and said that a $200 stipend would be perfect and asked if we can give that to the national organization FMH. Also told her the board okayed her staying with us, she is asking if we could cover her stay for the entire festival. Check in on Fri 27th - Check out Mon the 30th. Discuss Motion - Vote

P. Ron is waiting on confirmation from BAM to replace Diversity.

Q. Waiting to get member application for Minnie Hackney - $200 donation already approved.
